Worked up the ambition to print out In A Mirror, Looking Out, and Lost Hours, so I can start editing them tomorrow. I'm going to give them a read tonight, then get to it tomorrow. Neither is very long, so it shouldn't take long. Add in a bit of limoncello. This is the way.

Mnemosyne / Finished this edit. Now up to 31,608 words. I've heard it said that, when editing, you should remove 10% of what written. Thing is, I'm an underwriter. I leave a lot to be fleshed out later, in the interest of getting the rest of the story finished. It's getting closer, but still needs work. But that'll be in a few months. For now, back to first drafting. This is the way.

Yeah, it's that time again. Time for the third edit on Mnemosyne. Right now, it's 89 pages, 28,592 words. There's a scene that needs rewriting, plus a flashback, and a closing chapter to add, so that'll go up. I sigh deeply. This is the way.

Two short stories written with a month. This is significant for me, since I'm a slow writer. Also, these are true short stories. "Lost Hours," on the left, is 3923 words, and "...From Where," on the right, is 4693 words. (A short story tops out at 7500 words.) This gives me some flexibility when I start editing them.

"Lost Hours" is about an alien abduction, while "...From Where" is a riff on the Man from Taured urban myth. Both are very rough, and will need a lot of work.

"Lost Hours" / The shortest story I've written in a long time. It's also the fastest I've written anything, start to finish in just five days. We'll see how it goes when I start editing. This is the way.

Well, That Was Fast

This is the fastest I've ever written a story.

I started this story, currently titled "Lost Hours," was started on 10/11, and worked on it every day until 10/16. At that time, I stopped to do the next edit on The Fast Fading Light. I finished the edits , then turned my attention back to the story.

I just finished it.

Prior to this, the fastest I'd written a short story was "A God To Dance With," which I wrote in thirty days.

"Lost Hours" was written in about five days. I don't have a word count yet, but it's not long.

Yay me.

17 October 2022 / Back To Journaling...Again

I've decided to yet again try Journaling. This will be the fourth time I've tried to do this. I'm going to try a keep with it this time. I'm hoping to use it as a way to vent my frustrations, talk out my issues, and generally try to get my head together. I started back on the fourteenth, and have written every day. We'll see if I can keep it up. This is the way.

Under the Dark of the Moon / Just over 86,000 words, and starting Chapter 29. A little bit of quiet before they move against the Hunters' HQ. It's taken me over 14 years to get to this point. With luck and determination, it won't take too much longer to get to the end. It'll take as long as it takes. It's a marathon, not a sprint, after all. This is the way.

Mnemosyne / Okay, second edit finished. I didn't add the scenes, but I got the rest of the story further along. There's still more editing to be done, but that's down the road a bit. For now, the editing is done. This is the way.

A bit stuck on the other first drafts, so I'm going to work on something new. Titled Spiritus Mindi, it's set in the early 2190's, and concerns a collaboration between Division Five, and MilSci. Something interesting was found in an uninhabited system, and there was a death. Carly and Murphy join MilSci field supervisors Dennis Riley and his wife, Kristin Bryant to figure out what's going on. And then, things go pear-shaped. Still moving forward. This is the way.
