Just a little progress report...
As of now, I'm 1696 words into Chapter 21 of Before the Dawn. This brings the total word count to 61,088 words, 18,912 words until my goal of 80,000 words.
That 80,000 word goal isn't set in stone. I'm not going to be too concerned if I finish the first draft of the novel and I'm at, say, 75,000 words. I know there are places that will be expanded. There are places where I skipped over describing a scene - it was either dwell on what a desk looks like or get the story told. There's also one chapter that turned out to be only two pages long. That has to be expanded to tell the secret origins of the main antagonist.
